Open-AI Chat-GPT and Meta-AI LLAMA

The phrase “large language models” (LLMs) is turning into a common buzzword in today’s rapidly changing AI field. But what exactly are these LLMs, and is it even worthwhile to research them? Absolutely! LLMs are nothing less of linguistic wonders, capable of understanding and reacting just like people. Through intensive training on enormous datasets, where they learn billions of parameters and make use of significant computer resources, this extraordinary potential is tapped. With Transformers at their heart, LLMs are essentially sophisticated artificial neural networks that go through pre-training and fine-tuning using self-supervised and semi-supervised learning approaches

Let’s talk about the players in this AI world, Open Artificial Intelligence (AI) published an AI chatbot tool called ChatGPT at the end of November 2022. Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) architecture is the foundation of ChatGPT. On the internet, ChatGPT has been rapidly growing. This chatbot enables users to discuss with the AI by inputting prompts, and it is based on OpenAI’s language model. OpenAI created this chatbot and made it available for public. It is already regarded as the finest AI chatbot ever. The chatbot has been known to produce computer code, college-level essays, poetry, and even half-decent jokes. Even though chat-GPT has capabilities like remembering features, supportive communication, follow-up corrections, they have limitations like providing incorrect information, sometimes bias the contents, limited knowledge, interestingly sometimes gives different answers for the same question if you asked in a different way. OpenAI, however, will never give up. In March 2023, ChatGPT-4, their most advanced version with the most intelligence and knowledge base, was published. It’s exclusively accessible to Prime members via API and UI. Dollars are the issue here. OpenAI prices are based on 1000 tokens, and 1000 tokens are typically 750 words. Pay $0.03 for each 1,000 prompt tokens and $0.06 for each 1,000 response tokens.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT has been a well-liked option, but Meta’s announcement of Llama2, an open-source language model, in July 2023 shocked us with its promises to be competitive with and even superior to ChatGPT LLM’s capabilities. Llama2 has three variants, each with 7 billion, 13 billion, and 70 billion parameters. ChatGPT-4 boasts a significantly larger parameter size with approximately 1.76 trillion parameters (eight models with 220 billion parameters each). The main factor that distinguishes LLAMA2 from ChatGPT is its fine tuning. Llama2 can be optimised by humans, making it highly capable and aligned with human preferences. But fine-tuning is expensive.

When it comes to security, which is an important element in commercial applications. Llama2 had a lower proportion of information leaking than ChatGPT LLM in Meta study. Llama2 prioritises user privacy and security, scoring around 4% for Llama2 Chat and 7% for ChatGPT LLM. Along with the security, Llama2 has made an unprecedented announcement: it is free for both research and commercial use, subject to licence agreements. This implies that developers and organisations may use Llama2 to build chatbots and applications without needing to pay for the GPT4 API. The licence offers a limited, non-exclusive, global, non-transferable, royalty-free licence.

Both OpenAI ChatGPT and Meta-AI LLAMA2 are potent LLMs; LLAMA2 is open source and can be customised to suit user needs, but it might not be up to the mark for some tasks. In the business world, quality is non-negotiable, which is why despite its higher cost, ChatGPT4 stands out as the top-performing language model.
